Many mothers especially young mothers do not want to remove their belly button ring while they are pregnant. Some mothers say they keep it in as a remember of how they use to look before they became pregnant; however, it is perfectly fine for the belly button ring to stay in as long as they care for it the correct way.
There are a couple of choices that you can make on how to manage belly button rings while you are pregnant. Whether you decide to take it out, get a different style, or keep your current ring in.
Take it out
Most doctors will recommend you to remove your piercing; however, that is entirely up to you if you want to or not. The mothers who decide to keep their ring in say it does not itch or bother them until they are about five to six months. That is when it starts to bother them, but before then it was perfectly fine. If you decide to take out your belly button ring your hole will close up and you will have to re-pierce your belly button after you deliver you baby.
Pregnancy Rings
If you want to keep your belly button ring in while you are pregnant a good choice would be to purchase a pregnancy ring. A pregnancy ring is a non-metal, so it is flexible and will be able to stretch with your growing abdomen. Many mothers say this is the best ring to use while pregnant because it does not bother them even when they are ready to pop the baby out.
Be Careful of Tearing
If you decide you want to keep in your belly button ring, then you should watch for tearing and discomfort. The second it starts to bother you, you should take it out immediately. If the skin around it turns red, pussy, and starts to smell funny then you more than likely have an infection. If that is the case, you should seek medical attention immediately. As you get bigger make sure you are in tune with your piercing you do not want to get an infection especially, get an infection while you are carrying your unborn child.
Talk to Your Piercing Guy
If you plan on getting pregnant right after you get your belly button pierce, it would be a wise decision to consult with your piercing guy. He will be able to give you some advice when it comes to buying the different rings. We know that after you get it pierced the same ring needs to stay in for about six weeks for it to be effective. So you do not waste money make sure you get a ring that will be able to grow with your growing belly.
C-Sections
If you are going to need a C-section most doctors will order you to take out the piercing. However, some of them may allow you to have a non-metal piercing. That is not the case for all, if you will need a C-section it is wise to ask if you are allowed or not allowed to have your belly button ring in.
Being pregnant and having your belly button pierced is not the end of the world. You can keep your original ring in, get a non-metal ring also known as a pregnancy ring, or take it out. Whatever you do always be in tune with your piercing because it can easily get infected and you will need immediate medical attention.
